Smoke Alarm Credited for Saving Cheyenne Resident’s Life
Cheyenne Fire Rescue officials are crediting a smoke alarm for saving the life of a northeast Cheyenne resident whose basement caught fire Tuesday afternoon.
Spokesman Scott Smith says firefighters were called to a house in the 5500 block of Bluff Place shortly before 1:30 p.m.
When crews arrived, Smith says they found the house filled with smoke and a fire in the basement.
"The sound of a working smoke alarm alerted a sleeping occupant to (the) fire," said Smith. "The lone occupant was able to exit the house safely."
Smith says firefighters had the fire out around 2 p.m., but he didn't have a damage estimate.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
