Cheyenne Police Will Have Extra Help During Cheyenne Frontier Days
Cheyenne Police will be calling in officers from the Torrington Police Department and Laramie County Sheriff's Office to help with enforcement efforts during Cheyenne Frontier Days.
The 10-day western celebration gets underway on Friday and runs through July 27. In 2024 about 550,000 people attended various events. While it's difficult to say how many people are in town at any given time, it's safe to say that the city swells far beyond it's normal population of around 65,000 people.
Help Is Coming From Other Agencies
To help meet the increased demand for law enforcement, CPD spokeswoman Alex Farkas says officers from the Torrington Police Department as well as deputies from the Laramie County Sheriff's Office will be joining the CPD enforcement effort during Frontier Days.
Farkas on Monday evening said she wasn't certain how many members of each agency would be helping out Cheyenne Police.
According to Farkas, a lot of safety planning goes on before Frontier Days gets underway:
"Safety is our top priority - the Cheyenne Police Department spends months prior to the event planning with partnering agencies: Cheyenne Fire Rescue, AMR, Cheyenne/Laramie County Emergency Management Agency, and Cheyenne Frontier Days, to name a few. Incident Action Plans (IAPs) are created for each day and night – the plans clearly outline the tactics, resources, and support needed from each agency."
Farkas went on to say that officer staffing for CFD events is determined by ticket sales. In other words, events that have sold more tickets have more police officers assigned to them. Officers who are assigned to CFD will focus only on criminal calls in Frontier Park, with the rest of the force working city-wide.
