A 31-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars after police say they caught him trying to steal items from an SUV at SpringHill Suites.

Officers were called to the hotel early this (Thursday) morning in response to a report of a man possibly breaking into parked cars.

When police arrived, they found Frank J. Hardy, Jr. hiding in a dumpster enclosure on the property.

Police say Hardy admitted to having entered an SUV in the parking lot and having taken some luggage out of it.

The luggage, which was found in a dumpster in the enclosure where Hardy was hiding, consisted of two backpacks and three duffel bags valued at $800.

Two backpacks containing five meth pipes, a small bag of meth, a ski mask, a hatchet, a knife and a gas card belonging to the victim were also found inside the enclosure, but Hardy denied ownership of the backpacks.

Hardy was arrested and charged with burglary, misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine, possession of burglary tools and misdemeanor theft.

Hardy is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $3,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10 at 9:30 a.m.
