[UPDATE] Laramie Curtis Street Bridge

Construction never seems to go as planned, however, the Curtis Street Bridge project has been running smoothly since its May start. In fact, Kory Cramer, WYDOT Resident Engineer, said, “This project is coming together faster and smoother than any bridge project I've been involved with.”

Cramer said the project is on schedule, and they plan on pouring the concrete bridge deck tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 4, if the weather permits.  

"Traffic will be diverted [from I80] to the ramps from 3 a.m. to approximately noon Friday. This will allow the pump trucks and ready mix trucks to pump from down below. It is also much safer to divert live traffic from driving under the concrete operation taking place from above." 

He attributed the success to “WYDOT and Reiman, along with Villalobos Concrete of Colorado and Traffic Saftey Servies, have had a strong working relationship throughout the project producing a high-quality product.”

Wyoming Department of Transportation estimated a finish of next month, September 2023.

WYDOT has a few projects slated for the future; they plan to begin construction on 3rd Street from Curtis to Boswell in 2025. Cramer said, “This project will be very similar to the work done on Grand Avenue from 15th Street to 3rd Street in 2019. The project will consist of upgrading the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) access at each intersection and new updated signal systems at the current signalized intersections.

“The intersection of 3rd and Grand will be replaced with concrete. The box culvert over Spring Creek will be replaced with a larger structure accommodating a sidewalk and a bike path. Storm sewer upgrades and the Street will be milled and paved. 

Cramer said the plans for 2025 have been postponed for the past few years to allow the City of Laramie to finish its waterline work currently happening on 3rd Street. 

Over the next few years, WYDOT will also resurface Curtis Street from I-80 to 3rd Street and Grand Ave. from 30th to I-80.
