It's still the fastest-growing sport in America, and people's dedication to it is incredible. One of Pickleball's most appealing aspects is that anyone can play. No matter what your athletic ability or age, you can get out on the court and play.

I remember first hearing about the sport in 2017, when someone asked if I wanted to put together a team and play in a tournament. I had no idea what it was, but all I heard was that it was a hit at retirement homes. I thought I could hang with the retirees of the community, but I ended up not being able to participate.

Depending on where you live in Wyoming, your pickleball options may differ. The Wyoming Pickleball Association (WPA) is dedicated to spreading the sport across the state. They'll be hosting their 2nd Annual Paddle on the Plains Pickleball Tournament Nov.13 -14 in Cheyenne, and registration is open.

Casper's pickleball scene is great, with the Casper Pickleball & Sports Complex offering memberships and hosting multiple tournaments and leagues. They actually have the 'Monster Smash' round-robin tournament coming October 23-25.

The City of Casper has built multiple pickleball courts both at Washington Park and the Recreation Center. If you're worried about losing your pickleball skills over the winter, they've just announced an Adult Winter Pickleball League on Monday nights beginning December 14. You can sign up your 2-person team now and start working out the kinks.

If you're not pickleball-ready, that's ok. You can buy a starter kit for fairly cheap, and just like any other sport, the quality and prices keep going up. Before long, the conversations in your friends' group go from golf in the summer to pickleball in the winter.
