Husband Says Lynn Hutchings Won’t Quit Wyoming Senate
The husband of a Wyoming legislator accused of comparing homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality says his wife did no such thing and won't resign her seat.
Wyoming Equality says Sen. Lynn Hutchings [R-Laramie County] made the following comments to members of the Cheyenne Central Gay-Straight Alliance at the legislature on Feb. 1. “If my sexual orientation was to have sex with all of the men in there and I had sex with all of the women in there and then they brought their children and I had sex with all of them and then brought their dogs in and I had sex with them, should I be protected for my sexual orientation?”
Thomas Hutchings, in an interview on KGAB radio in Cheyenne on Thursday, said he is not sure whether his wife uttered those exact words or not in an exchange with the students. But he says even if she did, she was asking rhetorical question about the difficulty of legally defining sexual orientation.
The comments were in regard to a bill that would have aimed to protect Wyoming LGBTQ residents from job and hiring discrimination. The bill has since died due to failure to meet a legislative deadline.
Wyoming Democratic Party Joe Barbuto and others have called for Sen. Hutchings to step down. But Mr. Hutchings said ''No. Lynn's not going anywhere. She's not going to quit."
Hutchings said he was filling in for his wife during the interview because she is too busy with her legislative duties right now take the time. KGAB morning host Glenn Woods said Thursday that he has invited Wyoming Equality to be interviewed on-air as well, but so far has not gotten a response
