High Water Levels on North Platte Pose Danger
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is advising people to use extreme caution when floating the North Platte River in Carbon County.
The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Flood Warning for the North Platte in the Saratoga area.
"River conditions are dangerous right now," said Saratoga Game Warden Biff Burton. "The water is high, fast and cold, and this is not a good time for inexperienced people to attempt to float the river, no matter what type of watercraft they use."
Game and Fish says the cold water also poses a hypothermia danger. Hypothermia can occur at temperatures above 40 degrees if a person becomes chilled from submersion in cold water.
