Firefighters battled a large grass fire near Hillsdale for nearly three hours Wednesday afternoon.

Laramie County Fire District 2 Operations Chief Manny Muzquiz says the fire broke out west of town around noon.

"When we got there it was about 15 to 20 acres, but the wind picked up and it just moved to the south and the east pretty fast," said Muzquiz.

The fire ended up burning about 900 acres.

"The fire got pretty close to one home on the very south end of the fire, right around County Roads 212 and 140," said Muzquiz. "No one was injured and no structures burned."

Fire Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 along with the Wyoming Air National Guard and F.E. Warren Air Force Base helped battle the blaze.

"We don't really know what started it," said Muzquiz.

Firefighters were called to a grass fire in the exact same location last week after a farmer that was tilling up his land hit a rock and a spark ignited the grass.
