The City of Cheyenne has four new firefighters.

Vincent Padovano, Colin Kealoha, Chris Hunter and Kevin West graduated from the Front Range Fire Consortium in Greeley, Colorado on December 10.

"They're all exceptional," said Fire Chief Jim Martin. "They've done very well in their academy and we're looking forward to having them be part of Cheyenne Fire & Rescue."

The four new hires went through a rigorous, 16-week course that included classroom and hands-on training.

"They go through learning the basic skills of being a firefighter," said Martin. "They go through about a week-and-a-half of different types of fires where they continually go in, so they get a lot of instruction and chances to practice what they learn."

"When they're done they have their Firefighter I and II Certifications," added Martin. "What's nice (is that) they can come in right away as soon as they're done."

The new firefighters will begin their shift and station assignments next week.
