Cheyenne Police say they responded to South High School on Monday afternoon after someone reported that a student was harming themselves in a restroom at the school.

That's according to a post on the Cheyenne Police Department Facebook page.

According to the post, the report prompted a search of South High School and surrounding schools, and no one was found to be harming themselves or threatening to do so.

School Research Officers were able to determine that a false report had been made using the 988 Wyoming Lifeline. The post says the student who apparently called in a false report has been identified.

The post says: "While 988 is a critical resource for individuals in crisis, false reports can divert emergency resources and cause unnecessary concern within our schools. We encourage parents and guardians to talk with their children about the seriousness of making false reports and the potential consequences of these actions."

Mental Health/Suicide Help Lines

The post goes on to list options for mental health/suicide emergencies:

If you or someone you know is seeking mental health assistance, the following resources are available:

• Safe2Tell (School Hotline): 1 (844) 996-7233 or www.safe2tellwy.org
