A 43-year-old Cheyenne transient currently incarcerated in the Laramie County Detention Center is facing a felony charge after reportedly injuring a jailer.

According to a booking sheet, it all started around 9:30 p.m. on July 31, 2024, after inmate Amber Rae Espinoza reportedly broke a jail-issued tablet valued at $350.

Due to the sharp pieces, Deputy Cruz says Espinoza had to be moved to a different cell for her safety and the safety and security of the jail.

Deputy: Espinoza 'Attacked Sgt. Sabo With the Tablet'

Cruz says when he and Sgt. Sabo attempted to move Espinoza, she attacked Sabo with the tablet, striking Sabo with enough force that his hand went through the tablet.

Espinoza was also reportedly combative with deputies by flailing her arms, pulling away, and attempting to kick them, and had to be transported out of the pod and given alternative housing because of her disruption.

Espinoza Hit With Felony Charge

Espinoza was subsequently charged with interference with a peace officer - bodily injury, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

She was also charged with two misdemeanors, including property destruction and interference with a peace officer - no injury.

Bond Set at $5K Cash

Espinoza was seen on the charges in Laramie County Circuit Court on Aug. 13, 2024, during which her bond was set at $5,000 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 23, 2024, at 9 a.m.
