Cheyenne Police say they have received reports of a phone scam involving phony arrest warrants.

Captain Mitch Maxwell says the scam involves a caller who claims to be a member of some law enforcement agency calling about a supposed arrest warrant for not showing up for jury duty. The victim is told the caller has worked out a special bond price, which will allow the victim to avoid jail time if paid immediately.

Maxwell says in some cases the callers have been invoking the name of Laramie County Clerk Debbye Lathrop as having authorized the special deal to make the story sound more believable.

Maxwell says under no circumstances should you send the money, adding law enforcement doesn't  operate that way in dealing with outstanding warrants.

He adds you can call the police department or Laramie County Sheriff's Department to find out if you have any outstanding warrants.
