Cheyenne Man Charged With Aggravated Assault After Gun Threat
A 19-year-old Cheyenne man could face up to ten years in prison after allegedly threatening a man with a gun.
Court records say police were called to the 1200 block of Diamond Avenue around 11:20 a.m. on July 11 after Nicodemus Clawson reportedly pulled a handgun from his pants, chambered a round and pointed it at Brandon West.
Police say Clawson told them he got into an argument with Brandon and John West over his pregnant girlfriend, who is Brandon's sister and John's stepdaughter.
The affidavit says Clawson "admitted to brandishing a handgun" because "he felt he needed to defend himself from Brandon."
The affidavit also says that "Clawson stated he received the gun from the Chief of Police several months ago who told him to use it to protect himself" and that "there were police helicopters surrounding his house at the time the Chief of Police provided him with the gun."
Clawson is currently being held in the Laramie County Jail on $5,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 20 at 10 a.m.
