Cheyenne East was blessed with a super talent this year on the basketball court and that was Erik Oliver. He was named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year averaging 19 points and 7 rebounds a game. The senior will move on to LCCC to play at the next level and he will be hard to replace. The T-Birds will also miss the multi-talented Tanner Muchmore but on the bright side, the team is expected to return Xavier and Demetrius McCord. Both guys averaged 10 points a game and Demetrius was named all-state. At the 4A State Tournament, Cheyenne East started out with Star Valley and East made quick work of the Braves with a 79-36 win. Oliver was 7-10 from the field and finished with 18 points. Onyx Jackson had 15 and Graedyn Buell had 13. In the 4A semi-finals, East lost a hard-fought game to eventual state champion Kelly Walsh 70-63. The T-Birds were just 3-14 from the 3 point line and were led in scoring by Oliver with 19. Muchmore and Buell had 10 each. East finished the tournament 4th after a 73-61 loss to Sheridan. The Thunderbirds had 3 guys in double figures in that game, Jackson with 15, Oliver with 14 and Buell with 11. This program has a long tradition of winning and the cupboard won't be bare on 2019-20.
