Cheyenne East entered the 4A state tournament as the #1 seed from the east but the Thunderbirds were certainly tested at the Casper Events Center in November. East did prevail 3 sets to one in the quarterfinal round against Riverton but lost a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Thunder Basin in the semi-finals. That was a match where the T-Birds won the first two sets and lost their next 3. In the consolation round, East led Star Valley 2-0 and had to hold on to win 3-2 with a thrilling 15-13 5th set that but the Thunderbirds into the 3rd place match. East defeated Riverton for the 2nd time in the tournament to take home the bronze medal and this team was loaded with talent. Three players were designated all-state: Ky Buell, Madison Blaney, and Hailey Marshall. Buell and Blaney are seniors and they'll be quite a force in basketball later this winter, Marshall was a junior this year and next year's team is slated for just 3 seniors. Cheyenne East has been a premier program in Wyoming for many years. There's no reason why that can't continue.
