Wyoming State Parks Fees May Increase
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming officials are considering raising fees at state parks, as visitation is on the rise and state revenues are dwindling.
Any fee changes would need to be approved by the state Legislature. The Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources is hoping lawmakers will allow the department more flexibility in setting its own fees.
A legislative committee is scheduled to discuss a proposal on the matter at a meeting next month.
The proposal comes as the parks department is looking to offset a $1.4 million cut to its operations under budget cuts announced by Governor Matt Mead last month.
Department Director Milward Simpson says the agency is looking "at every possible way" to boost revenue.
