The City of Laramie is reminding property owners that a new Surface Water Utility fee will begin showing up on your utility bill as of this month.

Laramie has launched a new program aimed at  "addressing storm water runoff, minimizing flood risks, and enhancing the resilience of Laramie’s drainage infrastructure" in the words of a news release.

The new program will be paid for through a Surface Water Drainage Utility Fund. The Laramie City Council authorized the fund last December. As part of the new fund, Laramie property owners will have to pay a new Surface Water Drainage fee.

How Will The Fees Be Assessed?

The fee will be assessed based on  "the amount of impervious surface—such as rooftops, driveways, and paved areas—that contributes to runoff. The fee structure ensures that funding is distributed equitably based on a property’s contribution to stormwater runoff."

While property owners will be charges on the basis of impervious surface area, credits towards the fees are also available based on such things as rain gardens, permeable pavement and detention basins.

You can learn more about the new program, including access to an interactive map here.

Questions and/or comments on the fees can be emailed to surfacewater@cityoflaramie.org.
