The federal Transportation Security Administration is reminding travelers that starting in October of 2020, people will need a REAL-ID compliant drivers license or similar identification to board an airplane in the United States.

For Wyoming residents, as for most other Americans, you can tell if your license meets the criteria by whether it has a star at the top. Wyoming driver's licenses have the star located in the upper-right-hand corner (see the photo with this article).

Those who do not have licenses compliant with the federal REAL-ID law will need to produce another form of identification, such as a passport or military ID.

The REAL ID act was passed by Congress in 2005 in response to 9/11 Commission recommendations aimed at preventing future terroristic attacks using airplanes.
