Hitching Post Inn

Mayor Marian Orr said in her state of the city address Tuesday that she's "not backing down" from taking on the recently condemned Hitching Post Inn property.

Officials are trying to figure out what sparked an early morning fire at the Hitching Post Inn Monday.

If the owner fails to comply with the order within 30 days, the city will begin the demolition process at the owner's expense.

After several years of decline, the inn burned down in a September 2010 fire that later was determined to be a case of arson.

Falghun Dharia was sentenced to probation and must pay $11.3 million in restitution.

A long list of famous politicians, movie stars and musicians have visited the Hitching Post over the years, including fomer Presidents Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower and Harry Truman.

Water and power to the buildings were shut off in September.

The Hitching Post was decimated by a fire a few years ago.

The mayor says the current owner doesn't have the money to demolish the buildings.
