Restoration Work On Cheyenne Airport Fountain Is Underway
Phase One of restoration work on the Cheyenne Historic Airport Fountain got underway on Monday, according to Cheyenne City Planner Stephanie Lowe
According to a news release, the first phase of work will include waterproofing the lower and upper bowls of the fountain and upgrading the plumbing and wiring to meet current standards. After this work is completed, the fountain will be able to run on a limited basis only.
That is because the damage to the terra cotta could be made worse if the water is run too long before being restored. The fountain was originally built in 1934.
The restoration effort is being paid for in part by a grant from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund and also by a grant from the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office.
The Cheyenne Historic Preservation Board has also contributed fundraising efforts and donations.
