Several locations around southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle either set high-temperature records for the day or approached existing records.

That's according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service and Cheyenne-based meteorologist Don Day Jr.

The weather service posted the following on its website:

''It was a hot day across the area today! Several daily record highs were tied or broken. The hottest spots were Sidney and Alliance, which both reached 103F. Cheyenne and Chadron fell a few degrees short of record highs. The heat continues tomorrow, and some records may be challenged again.''

Cheyenne fell just short of tying a record, checking in with a high of 93 degrees. Don Day Jr. says that fell just short of the all-time record for the date of 95 degrees set in 1995.

It looks like the hot weather will continue for another day before slightly cooler weather and possible showers arrive on Wednesday.

Here is the outlook for the rest of this week:

Hot weather expected once again today across southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska with afternoon highs in the upper 90s to triple digits near Chadron, Scottsbluff, and Sidney. Afternoon showers with a few rumbles of thunder possible before storm chances increase Wednesday through the remainder of the week. There is the potential for widespread heavy rainfall Friday into Saturday over the area that will need to monitored over the next few days for possible flooding. Be sure to check weather.gov/cys for the latest forecast.
