Don Day says the severe weather may not be over for southeast Wyoming.

April 2022 was the driest April in Cheyenne since 1880, according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service.

Day said the next five weeks or so will be very important in terms of the ongoing drought and its potential severity.

But Day says a more severe winter can be expected in some other parts of Wyoming.

He says early indications are that eastern Wyoming might be in for a colder-than-usual winter.

Day says the warmer weather will melt off the high mountain snowpack that has accumulated over the last few months, potentially leading to some flooding.

An actual temperature in one Wyoming town was recorded at near 40 below zero.

Don Day says mild winter temperatures generally were the rule last winter, but that won't be the case this winter.
