Cheyenne police investigated 113 property crimes in October, including 20 burglary cases, 37 theft from motor vehicle cases, 20 stolen vehicle cases and 36 shoplifting cases.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says burglary numbers are higher than they were last year, but all the other categories are down.

"October of 2019 had more burglaries than October of 2018, but it's not like we had a big spike in it," he said. "Overall for the year though, we're still significantly down more than 10 percent in every category."

Police this year have been fully investigating property crimes, mapping crime trends and proactively looking for property crime offenders as part of their goal to reduce the city's property crime rate, which was 45 percent above the national average last year.
