Police in Fort Collins have announced the arrest of a 42-year old man who allegedly assaulted a young teenager who he had met online.

That's according to a post on the Fort Collins Police Services Facebook page.

According to the post, investigators found out that 42-year-old Nathaniel Strauss had struck up a conversation with the victim through a social meet-up app. Strauss, who allegedly had claimed to be 28 years old, arranged to meet the victim at least twice for sexual activity.

The victim's parent contacted police after becoming concerned about their child's involvement with a grown man. Investigators soon identified the suspect as Strauss, who is a registered sex offender.

The post on the Facebook page goes on to say

“Predators often use social apps to find underage victims and engage in grooming behavior, like complimenting them, giving gifts, and offering them a place to stay,” said Sgt. Heather Moore, who leads the FCPS Crimes Against Persons Unit. “This disturbing pattern of behavior often culminates in illegal activity that can result in lasting physical and emotional harm to victims.”
Strauss faces charges of Sexual Assault (class 1 misdemeanor), Obscenity to a Minor (class 6 felony), and Unlawful Sexual Contact (class 4 felony). A booking photo is attached courtesy of the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
Police are concerned that Strauss may have other victims. Anyone who may know anything about this case or other potential victims of the same man is being asked to contact Detective Laura Knudsen at 970-416-2771.
Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers Of Larimer County at 970-221-6868.
