Cheyenne/Laramie County/Albany County motorists should be aware of a couple of WYDOT projects that could force detours and/or delays over the summer months.

That's according to WYDOT spokeswoman Andrea Staley.

She says one of the projects is underway, while the other will start next week. While the bulk of the work is slated for the Cheyenne area, pavement-patching work is slated for Highway 287 south of Laramie as well.

Pavement Patching Job Is Underway

Staley says WYDOT and Simon Construction crews have started a district pavement-patching job on Wyoming Highway 212/College Drive in Cheyenne.

According to a news release: ''The first phase of the project has begun on Wyoming Highway 212/College Dr. from mile marker 2.72-3.67, South Greeley Highway to Laramie County Community College. Crews are upgrading ADA at the intersection of College Drive and Avenue C and then will proceed with lowering manholes, milling and paving.  There will be traffic shifts in order to complete work as well as a possible short duration detour for Avenue C, for the removals and concrete cure time.  A 12 foot width restriction will be in place.''

When that is finished, crews will move on to U.S. Highway 30/East Lincolnway between mile markers 368.36 to 371.13, Craigy J to Archer. Again, a 12 foot width restriction will be in place, and flaggers and pilot cars will be deployed in work zones.

The final phase of the district pavement patch job will move to US Highway 287 south of Laramie between mile markers 407.5-409.9. Crews will mill the existing chip seal and place a plant mix wearing course.  Flaggers and a pilot car should be expected during this phase.  Once paving is complete, rumble strips will be ground into the shoulders and centerline of the roadway.  A 12 foot width restriction will be in place.

Staley says that project should be wrapped up by the end of October.

Concrete Slab Work To Start Soon

The second project is concrete slab work in Cheyenne. That project is slated to get underway on Monday, June 2, weather permitting.

According to Staley:

''Work will begin at the intersection of WYO 212/College Drive and 12th Street for concrete pavement replacement and ADA upgrades. Both the east and the west leg of 12th St. will be closed and detours will be in place. See the visual below.
Traffic will be in a head-to-head configuration in the southbound lanes of travel on College Drive and a 12 foot width restriction will be in place.  A temporary traffic signal will be placed at the intersection of Lincolnway and Cleveland Ave.
Reiman will begin working on the northbound lanes of travel as well as the east leg of 12th Street.  Once completed with the first phase, they will switch traffic to a head-to-head configuration in the northbound lanes of travel and begin the replacement of concrete pavement in the southbound lanes of travel.''

Staley says other work will follow, including concrete replacement on the I-25 Missile Drive northbound on ramp.

Motorists should expect lane closures and reduced speed limits with this project.

Check Out the Damages from Cheyenne's Wild Spring Wind Storm

On April 6 and 7, 2024, wild winds exceeding 90 mph blew through SE Wyoming, causing havoc in Cheyenne and on the interstate. Everything from fences to semis were upturned in the wind storm. Check out the damage shared by residents below.
