We are most of the way through Cheyenne Frontier Days 2024, albeit with the big final weekend still ahead.

So it seems like an appropriate time to ask: what do you think of the size of CFD crowds this year? We aren't just talking about the rodeo attendance figures, which won't be released until Sunday night. CFD officials stopped announcing daily rodeo attendance several years ago.

Rodeo and night show attendance is part of the puzzle, but what we are trying to get at here is the number of people who seem to be in town for Frontier Days. That includes the parades, pancake breakfasts, Frontier Park, the Thunderbirds air show, and all things CFD. That could even include the number of people who seem to be patronizing bars and restaurants. That's important to our local economy, as Frontier Days is ''make or break" for some businesses who largely count on that business to profit for the year.

Some of those are a matter of perception, since the parades, for example, are free and it's hard to compare numbers with past years.

Pancake Breakfast Numbers Comparable to Last Year

We know the free pancake breakfasts at the Cheyenne Depot Plaza served 5,105 people on Monday and 7,612 on Wednesday, Cheyenne Day. It's worth noting that Cheyenne Day almost always draws the largest crowds for the breakfasts.

Last year a total of 18,598 breakfasts were served. That means  5,881 people would have to be served breakfast on Friday to meet last year's number. That seems like a reasonable possibility, so we're probably roughly on track compared to last year's total.

So what do you think about the overall crowd sizes?
