The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service says monsoon moisture will prompt rain and thundershowers in southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle over the next couple of days.

The agency posted this statement on its website on Wednesday:

''Good morning! Here's our forecast for southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle, for the end of the work week into the weekend. Best chances for showers and storms will be Thursday, as monsoon moisture remains over the area. Best locations for showers and storms will be our western mountains and west of the Laramie Range Thursday afternoon. Monsoon moisture begins to wane Friday, but still enough moisture to create scattered afternoon showers and storms Friday afternoon. Really begins to dry out Saturday and especially Sunday, as a low pressure system tracks across Montana. This is a favored pattern for gusty west winds and dry conditions. Could see elevated to critical fire weather conditions Saturday afternoon, as temperatures warm and afternoon humidity falls to the mid teens. Warmer, drier and windier Sunday. As a result, fire weather conditions could be more widespread Sunday afternoon.''
