Man Accused in Deadly Cheyenne Shooting Moved to Federal Custody
A Cheyenne man accused of killing two people and seriously injuring two others in a shooting in east Cheyenne last week has been moved to federal custody.
Andrew Weaver, 25, made his initial appearance before U.S. District Court Judge Kelly H. Rankin Wednesday afternoon on a single count of felon in possession of a firearm.
Weaver is accused of opening fire at 3436 E. 11th Street on Sept. 16, killing 30-year-old Shaline Wymer and 37-year-old Adrien Butler and seriously injuring two 14-year-old boys.
He's also alleged to have shot at Armando Butler, who was able to avoid being struck by a bullet by falling to the floor.
Police say Weaver told them that he'd gone to the house with the intention of trading a gun for drugs and a different gun. He also said that he'd bought methamphetamine from Adrien Butler in the past.
Weaver was arrested in a nearby field a couple of hours after the shooting, and reportedly had a Smith & Wesson 9mm semiautomatic handgun on him. Weaver said he used the gun to shoot the victims, according to an affidavit.
Rankin appointed Weaver an attorney and set his arraignment and detention hearing for Sept. 30 at 1:45 p.m.
Weaver's case in Laramie County Circuit Court, in which he's charged with two counts of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault, is still pending.
Due to ongoing investigation, it's unknown at this point whether the U.S. Attorney's Office will take over the case.
