City of Laramie Names New Public Works Director

The City of Laramie has announced the appointment of Jay Smith as the city's new Public Works Director, according to a City news release.

Smith has been with the City since 2023.  He started out as the City Natural Resources Administrator, in charge of municipal ranches and water rights on the Laramie River.

From that position he moved on to the post of Utility Water Treatment and Production Administrator, in charge of making sure the city water supply was being used efficiently and safely.

Smith Previously Worked For The State Of Wyoming

The post goes on to say "Prior to coming to work for the City in 2023, Smith had worked in multiple positions for the State of Wyoming, including roles in the Wyoming Water Development Office and the Wyoming State Engineer’s Office. Smith has a bachelor's degree in Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management from the University of Wyoming."

Smith Succeeds Brooks Webb, Who Took A job In Florida

Smith takes over as Public Works Director from Brooks Webb, who held the position for 14 years after previously serving as Laramie Solid Waste Manager.

Webb is moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he will serve as Public Works Director.
