CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Some southeast Wyoming residents are concerned about a mining company's recent purchase of more than 500 acres of land.

The property in southwest Laramie County was purchased recently by Hunt Brothers Properties, which also operates a Colorado-based sand and gravel mining company called Asphalt Specialties Co.

A business manager with the company says if they decide to pursue a quarry, they will work with residents and take steps to minimize dust and noise.

But people who live nearby say they fear that a quarry will strain local water resources and affect wildlife.

Companies that want to develop a quarry for mining must get a permit through the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. A spokesman for the agency says they haven't received anything yet.
