A  Friday afternoon grass fire south of Cheyenne burned  500 acres, but caused no injuries and burned no structures, according to officials with Laramie County Fire District #1.

The fire was one of several that have been reported in Laramie County recently, as dry and often windy conditions raise the fire danger. One recent blaze burned 2500 acres and at one point threatened the  Dyno Nobel plant west of town.

The blaze was reported around 1 p.m. near Highway 85 in the Lummis Ranch area. firefighters from several different fire departments soon joined in the fight against the fire.

They included both Laramie County Fire Districts 1&2 as well as the Cheyenne Fire and Rescue, and firefighters from Wyoming Air National Guard and F.E. Warren Air Force Base.

The fire was out by late Friday afternoon. the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
