Kmart announced that it will be closing 78 stores across the U.S., including one in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The Kmart located at 1840 Dell Range Blvd was included in the most recent list of closures by the company Jan. 4, 2017.

The company closed a total of 78 Kmart and 26 Sears stores today, that is in addition to the 30 Kmart and 16 Sears store closures the company announced Dec. 27, 2016.

Although the company did not name the store's specific reason for closing, the release stated that poor financial performance was an overall deciding factor for the company's decision.

"Many of these stores have struggled with their financial performance for years and we have kept them open to maintain local jobs and in the hopes that they would turn around. But in order to meet our objective of returning to profitability, we have to make tough decisions and will continue to do so, which will give our better performing stores a chance at success."

Liquidation sales for the store will begin as early as Jan. 6, according to the release. The company also states that laid off employees will have severance and opportunities to become employed in an another store. There is a Sears store located in the Cheyenne Frontier Mall.
