Man Who Led Cheyenne Police on Chase in Stolen Car Gets 41 Months

A man who was arrested last year after leading Cheyenne police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, the United States Attorney's Office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Jarred Luther Pacheco, 39, will serve his sentence consecutive to a Colorado sentence.

According to police, on Oct. 14, 2023, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a car reported stolen out of Longmont, Colorado.

The driver, later identified as Pacheco, sped off, proceeding to drive recklessly and at times into oncoming traffic, and the officer lost sight of him.

Thanks to tips from multiple citizens, officers were able to find the car in an alley within minutes, locate Pacheco, and arrest him.

Search Leads to Drug Paraphernalia, Loaded Shotgun

The car was subsequently searched, and several glass pipes, a digital scale containing a white powdery substance, and a loaded shotgun were recovered.

A search of Pacheco’s backpack revealed another digital scale containing a white powdery substance, empty jewelry bags containing a white powdery substance, glass pipes, and shotgun shells.

Police say Pacheco was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Weld County, Colorado for failure to appear on an original charge of "dangerous drugs."

Pacheco's criminal history also revealed that he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to multiple domestic battery convictions in Wyoming.

Pacheco's Case Goes Federal

Pacheco was indicted on July 18 and pleaded guilty on Sept. 19.

Pacheco will be subject to three years of supervised release once he's released from prison.
