UW Wrestling Falls to No. 11 South Dakota State, 33-3
* University of Wyoming press release
LARAMIE -- For the second week in a row, No. 31 Cole Brooks (141) provided the spark for the University of Wyoming wrestling team. However, unlike last week, and unfortunately for the Cowboys, Brooks didn’t kickstart a rally against No. 11 South Dakota State.

The Jackrabbits rolled to a 33-3 victory inside the UniWyo Sports Complex on Thursday. The loss drops the Pokes to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 action, while the win improves South Dakota State to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in league.
“Cole was a positive,” head coach Mark Branch said. “We knew this was a really, really good team, but we could see a path to victory. We knew everything had to go right. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it go right. You make your own luck, and we didn’t make any luck tonight.”
Brooks, like many of the Cowboys, was battling illness, however, he was able enough to wrestle and did so impressively. He scored a 9-4 decision win over Caleb Gross that improved him to 10-4 on the year.
Wyoming couldn’t find a win anywhere else. The Jackrabbits trotted out a lineup that featured ranked guys in all but one weight class.
No. 4 Jore Volk (125) and No. 14 Gabe Willochell (149) fell via decision and major decision to No. 14 Tanner Jordan and No. 19 Alek Martin, respectively.
The Cowboys are back in action Sunday. They host North Dakota State at 1 p.m. inside the UniWyo Sports Complex.
