UPDATE: More Details Released in Fatal Crash Near Cheyenne
UPDATE:
The Laramie County Sheriff's Office has released more details about this morning's fatal crash just east of Cheyenne.
According to Community Relations Specialist Brandon Warner, deputies were called to a single-vehicle rollover in the area of East Pershing Boulevard and Tate Road at approximately 5:23 a.m.
"The 17-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle and did not survive his injuries," Warner said in a news release. "Speed is believed to be a contributing factor."
Cheyenne Police Department spokeswoman Alex Farkas says an officer had attempted to stop the teen near East Pershing Boulevard and Taft Avenue at approximately 12:51 a.m. after seeing him rev his engine at East Pershing Boulevard and North College Drive, accelerate east on Pershing, and run a red light, but the teen sped off, outpacing the officer.
"The officer lost sight of the vehicle at approximately 12:53 a.m. while traveling east on Pershing," Farkas said in a news release. "Additional officers were called to help search the area, but they were unable to relocate the vehicle."
"At approximately 5:23 a.m., the suspect vehicle was discovered crashed on Tate Road," Farkas added.
The teen, whose name will not be released due to him being a juvenile, is the first reported person to die on Laramie County's roadways this year.

The Laramie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred just east of Cheyenne this morning.
According to an agency Facebook post, the crash happened at East Pershing Boulevard and Tate Road.
"We will release more details later," the post reads. "Family has been notified."
Attempts to contact the Sheriff's Office have not been answered.
This is the first reported fatal crash in Laramie County this year, compared to four at this time last year.
