Just like us, dogs get cold too, especially in Cheyenne. Here are some ideas to help your furry friends survive the severe cold weather this winter.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight some ideas that will help you "winterize" your dog during the frigid cold days in Cheyenne.

  1. Winter Coat - I think these things look pretty funny, but they do the trick. You don't have to spend a lot either. You can head down to your local TJ Maxx and pick one up cheaper than you could at a name brand pet store.
  2. Neck Ponchos - If an unexpected shower comes your way, you can fold the neck poncho up over the head to tackle any moisture that might crown him.
  3. A Snout-Stick - Sometimes dogs noses can become itchy and red. This healing balm gets applied to the nose to help prevent cracking and itching. Just make sure to apply it just before his meal, so as to help hinder him from licking it off.
  4. Reflective Gear - When it gets dark and cold, you want something worn by your pet to help keep him physically safe. Make sure you have a reflective collar, or reflective tape on their winter coat. They'll be easier to see in the dark with car headlights.
  5. Snow Boots - Your dog has to go out and go potty. When there is snow on the ground, they get the ice and snow in their paws, which can be painful when you go to pull it out. Snow boots are a great way to keep the ice and snow out from between their toes.
