Foot Of Snow Possible In SE Wyoming Mountains This Week

The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service says a cold front that is expected to pass through the state later this week could dump up to a foot of snow on mountains in southeast Wyoming.

While Cheyenne and Laramie are not expected to get those kinds of snow accumulations, snow and freezing temperatures are expected in both communities. Laramie could also see some blowing snow.

That's according to a post on the agency's website:

Looking like a busy weather week ahead with warm, but windy conditions Tuesday and Wednesday before a colder weather pattern arrives. Afternoon temperatures will be in the 60s to low 70s east of I-25, while windiest conditions expected west of I-25 where temperatures will be slightly cooler. A cold frontal passage Thursday morning will result in temperatures dropping near and below the freezing mark throughout the day. Snowfall will begin developing west of the Laramie Range before spreading eastward towards the NE/WY border late Thursday afternoon and evening. Heaviest snowfall accumulations are expected in the mountains at this time with up to a foot of snow possible. Lower accumulations amounts are expected for adjacent valleys and lower elevation locations, but many areas could see 1-2 inches of snow. Headed towards the weekend, looking like the windy pattern could return with a potential widespread high wind event.

The forecast for the  Laramie area this week includes the possibility of some blowing snow along with freezing temperatures:

Snow, mainly after noon. High near 33. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
