The Wyoming Highway Patrol says driver inattention may be to blame for a two-vehicle crash north of Lander that left two Wyoming relatives dead.

Crash Details

The crash happened around 11:22 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, at milepost 6 on U.S. 287, near the Shoshone Rose Casino and Hotel.

According to a fatality crash summary, a Toyota Rav4 was turning southbound on U.S. 287, while a Dodge Challenger was northbound.

The driver of the Dodge Challenger reportedly steered left to avoid the Toyota Rav4 but struck the front of the Toyota Rav4.

“The Dodge Challenger ran off the road to the left, rolled multiple times, struck a power pole, and continued to roll multiple times before coming to its final resting place on the roof,” the summary reads.

Sadly, 30-year-old Christopher Posey and 35-year-old Jarrod Guina, neither of whom were buckled up, didn't survive their injuries. Two others were uninjured.

Victim Profiles

According to their obituaries (see below), Posey and Guina were lifelong residents of Fort Washakie.

"(Posey) worked as a security man at the Shoshone Rose Casino," his obituary reads. "Throughout his life, he also worked for the Shoshone Rose Casino, the Big Wind Casino, and Shoshone Housing.

"(Guina) worked hard throughout his life and held positions with BIA Forestry, Hines General Store, Alexander Excavation, Shoshone Rose, and the Wind River Casino," his obituary reads.

Fatal Crash Statistics

There have been 10 reported fatal crashes in Wyoming this year, resulting in 13 deaths.

Of those fatal crashes, three have occurred in Fremont County.


 

Christopher Shane Davis Posey Jr.
April 17, 1995 – February 1, 2026

Christopher Shane Davis Posey Jr., known to most as Chris, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, as the result of a tragic car accident.

Chris was born on April 17, 1995, in Lander, Wyoming, to Christopher Shane Davis Posey Sr. and Yolanda June Chavez. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Washakie, Wyoming.

Chris worked as a security man at the Shoshone Rose Casino. Throughout his life, he also worked for the Shoshone Rose Casino, the Big Wind Casino, and Shoshone Housing.

Chris enjoyed many hobbies, including fishing, hunting, and spending time at barbecues with family and friends. He was always willing to jump right in with his friends and also enjoyed playing video games. Chris will be remembered and deeply missed for his very funny and happy personality. He also very much enjoyed attending the Sundance ceremonies.

Chris is survived by his companion, Amber Aoah; his daughter, Sophia Posey; his mother, Yolanda Chavez; siblings, Christian and Natasha Posey, ; his maternal great-grandmother, Zella Guina; his grandparents, John Guina Jr., Orville and Lynette St. Clair, Davene Guina, Rita and Floyd Phillips, and Dennis and Doreen Chavez, Rose Siers, Ivan and Ernest Posey, Myron Littlebird; his living uncles, George Guina and Tad Chavez; and his aunts and uncles, Fiona Guina, Rachelle Nagashoa, Virginia (Howard) Posey Felter, Jolee (Craig) Red Cherries, Justin Revere, Waylon, Orrin, Terrence and Nolan Atkins; paternal grandmother, Pauline Posey; families including Posey, Chavez, Guina, Red Cherries, Littlebird, LittleTree, Siers, Underwood, and Bell.  We apologize if anyone was left out during this difficult time.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chris Posey, Sr.; his brother, Enrique Chavez Sr.; his aunt, Monique Guina; his uncles, Jared Guina, Brent Guina, and Erno Chavez Jr.; his relatives, James Guina, Uriah Guina, Manfred Guina, Roderick Guina, and Louise Chavez Jr.; his cousin, Tisso Guina; his maternal grandmother, Estalene Guina; his maternal grandfather, Erno O. A wake will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, February 4, 2026, at Rocky Mountain Hall.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Rocky Mountain Hall in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Burial will follow at Sacajawea Cemetery.

Jarrod Guina
Jun 7, 1990 - Feb 1, 2026

Funeral services for Jarrod James Guina, 35, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Rocky Mountain Hall.  Interment will follow at Sacajawea Cemetery.  A Prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2026 at Rocky Mountain Hall with a wake to follow at 117 Cameawait in Fort Washakie, WY.

Jarrod James Guina, age 35, passed away on February 1, 2026, in Billings, Montana. He was born on June 7, 1990, in Lander, Wyoming, the son of James Guina and Elizabeth Trosper.

A lifelong resident of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, Jarrod was deeply connected to his home, his family, and his community. He humbly served the Creator each day through caring for others and living with a giving spirit. He was a devoted participant in the Eastern Shoshone Sundance, which held great meaning throughout his life.

Jarrod attended Fort Washakie Elementary School, Wyoming Indian Middle School, and Fort Washakie Charter School, later continuing his education through Adult Education at Central Wyoming College.

He worked hard throughout his life and held positions with BIA Forestry, Hines General Store, Alexander Excavation, Shoshone Rose, and the Wind River Casino.

Jarrod enjoyed staying active and spending time with friends through his involvement in a pool league and a motorcycle club. He had a wide range of hobbies that reflected his adventurous and creative nature, including basketball, baseball, fishing, hunting, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding, crafting, and playing guitar. Above all, he treasured time spent with his children, and he loved riding motorcycles and traveling to places he enjoyed, including Las Vegas and Venice Beach.

Jarrod will be remembered for his kind heart, his spiritual devotion, and the love he carried for his children, family, and community.

Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth N. Trosper; daughters, Alayne Jamaye Guina and Zion Eldora Guina; sons, Cruz Stetson Wallace Guina and Corbin Alvin King Guina; brothers, Joaquin Trosper, Monaire Guina and Josiah Trosper Moon; sister, Sherice Guina; grandparents, Zedora and Allen Enos; the families of Trosper, Abeyta, Washakie, Teton, Enos, Thunder, Sage, Friday, Goggles, Chavez, and Guina.

Mr. Guina was preceded in death by his father, James Eldred Guina; sister, Monique Guina; grandparents, James Merton Trosper, Jr. and Jimmy Chavez.
