
Cheyenne Man Gets 1.5 Years in Federal Prison for Gun Crime
A 50-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to 1.5 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming announced late Wednesday afternoon.
Case Background
According to court documents, Robert Dean Campbell was sentenced in 2009 for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
He violated his terms of supervised release in 2021 and absconded from supervision.
On Aug. 15, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service located Campbell at his girlfriend’s camper in Cheyenne and arrested him on a warrant.

Officers located a Ruger 9mm pistol in the camper, which he possessed.
Legal Proceedings
Campbell was indicted on July 16, 2025, and pleaded guilty on Nov. 10, 2025.
Chief U.S. District Judge Kelly H. Rankin imposed the sentence on Friday, Jan. 30, in Cheyenne.

Supervised Release Ahead
Campbell will be subject to two years of supervised release once he's released from prison.
