Downtown Cheyenne Candy Shop To Close

Another retailer is leaving Cheyenne for Fort Collins. The Cheyenne Candy Store Emporium Museum announced their closing yesterday, citing conflicts with their landlord and the City.

When the old-fashioned candy shop opened last year, it marked a homecoming for owner Tony Vallejos, a military kid who lived in Cheyenne from kindergarten through second grade. When his family moved to Greece, his former classmates wrote him letters. Throughout his travels, he always dreamed of returning to his childhood home. Unfortunately, that dream has ended abruptly.

In a Facebook post, Vallejos blamed the owner of the building on 307 1/2 West Lincolnway and local government red-tape.

"I came to Cheyenne with nothing but good intentions, but every month, a new obstacle came my way. This one was the last. I made a decision to leave Cheyenne and it upsets me that I have to move away from all my wonderful, loving and very supportive customers. The City and the landlords are responsible for this behavior."

Vallejos now plans to open a similar shop in Fort Collins. The landlord and City officials were unavailable for comment.
