Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Meth Charge for Cheyenne Transient
A 31-year-old Cheyenne transient is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop in northeast Cheyenne.
According to a booking sheet, police stopped Joseph Nathaniel Paredes in the 3500 block of Cleveland Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. on July 23, 2024, for having expired registration.
Police say Paredes admitted he had a suspended driver's license and had previous charges for driving under suspension.
Police say when they ran Paredes' name, they discovered he had a suspended Wyoming driver's license with a previous conviction of driving under suspension from Feb. 23, 2023.
Paredes also had an unserved summons through Cheyenne Municipal Court for driving under suspension and no insurance.
When Paredes was asked to step out of the pickup, he reportedly admitted to having methamphetamine on him.
Search Leads to 10.27 Grams of Meth
When police searched Paredes, they reportedly found two plastic jewelry bags in his lower right pants pocket containing methamphetamine. One bag weighed 9.06 grams and the other bag weighed 1.21 grams.
Paredes was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and two misdemeanors, driving under suspension and no registration.
Paredes made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on July 26, 2024, during which his bond was set at $7,500 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 5, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
