Expired Tags Lead to Drug Bust, Felony Charges for Cheyenne Woman

A 35-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing felony drug possession charges following a traffic stop in west Cheyenne.

According to a booking sheet, Kayla Marie Gehnert was stopped on West Lincolnway at Snyder Avenue at about 6:54 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 for having expired tags.

Police say the tags on the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Gehnert was driving did not return to the pickup.

K-9 Sniff Leads to Felony Amount of Meth

A K-9 unit was called to the scene and the dog alerted on the pickup.

When police searched the pickup, they reportedly found a felony amount of methamphetamine in a handbag sitting in the front passenger seat.

Police say the handbag also contained a small bag of marijuana, prescription medications without the prescribed medicine bottle, and multiple small bags.

Gehnert was arrested and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center without issue.

She was subsequently charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Bond Set at $3K Cash

Gehnert made her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday, Nov. 4, during which her bond was set at $3,000 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
