Cheyenne Man Hit With Felonies After Traffic Stop Uncovers Drugs
A 37-year-old Cheyenne man is facing felony drug possession charges after police say they found methamphetamine and fentanyl on him.
According to a booking sheet, a police officer stopped Daniel Anthony Thompson at West 9th Street and Central Avenue at about 8:23 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21 for expired registration.
While the officer was in the process of completing a records check for warrants and driver's license history, Officer Sweet and his K-9 partner, Dutch, arrived on the scene, and Dutch alerted on Thompson's pickup.
K-9 Sniff Leads to Meth, Fentanyl
Thompson was asked to exit the pickup and was searched, and reportedly had two plastic bags containing methamphetamine and two fentanyl pills on him.
Police say the combined weight of the methamphetamine without packaging was 38.14 grams.
Thompson was arrested and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, and subsequently charged with two felonies, including possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance - third or subsequent offense.
Cheyenne Man Charged With Felonies Posts $5K Cash Bond
Thompson made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday, Aug. 23, and was released from jail after posting a bond of $5,000 cash.
Thompson is scheduled to be back in Circuit Court at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30 for his preliminary hearing.
