Burns Man Tells Cop He’s an Alien, Used Stolen Pickup to Make McDonald’s Run
A 38-year-old Burns man is facing a felony charge after Cheyenne police say they caught him behind the wheel of a stolen pickup.
Pickup Stolen
According to a booking sheet, a police officer was called to TownePlace Suites at 1710 W. Lincolnway at 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5 after it was reported that a white man with a mustache and short dark hair wearing a green utility jacket had stolen a white 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 with Wyoming plate 2-T-52902.
The officer says the pickup was last seen traveling west on West Lincolnway from the hotel.
While other officers checked the area for the pickup, the officer met with the reporting person, who said the pickup was low on gas and had a sticker that said "Patriot" on the tailgate.
After airing that information over the radio, the officer spoke to the hotel employee who said the man who took the pickup was hanging around the lobby for a few hours.
The employee says the man asked for his family, who he said had the last name Johnson, but there was no one staying there by that name.
Traffic Stop
The officer says during her interview with the employee, another officer found the pickup and initiated a traffic stop.
She says the driver, later identified as Adam Michael Johnson, was in custody when she arrived on the scene.
After placing Johnson in the back of her patrol car and Mirandizing him, the officer says Johnson told her he was waiting at the hotel for some friends to pick him up, and took the pickup because someone named "Jazz" told him he could.
An Alien and a Chicken Sandwich
The officer says Johnson also told her he was an alien and later told her that he took the truck to McDonald's and bought a chicken sandwich.
She says there was a sandwich sitting on the center console.
Johnson Arrested and Charged With Felony Theft
Johnson was arrested and subsequently charged with felony theft, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
Bond Set at $3K Cash
Johnson made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Dec. 10, during which his bond was set at $3,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
