Suspicious Person Call Leads to Burglary Arrest in Cheyenne
A 33-year-old Cheyenne transient is facing a felony charge after police say they found stolen items in his backpack.
According to a booking sheet, police were dispatched to a suspicious person call at 817 E. 4th St. around 3 a.m. on July 9, 2024, and spotted Benjamin James-George Woodworth in the area, who they say matched the description provided by dispatch.
Police say a witness told them that she saw someone matching Woodworth's description, who was wearing a backpack, appear to go into her neighbor's car.
Woodworth was Mirandized and reportedly admitted to opening the car door, but said he didn't take anything from the car.
When police searched his backpack, they reportedly found two items that were taken from the car.
Cheyenne Transient Arrested, Charged With Burglary After Police Find Stolen Items in His Backpack
Woodworth was arrested and subsequently charged with burglary, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
Woodworth made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on July 10, 2024, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 19, 2024, at 9 a.m.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
