Domestic Incident at Cheyenne Motel Leads to Felony Charge
A 38-year-old man with a history of domestic violence is facing a felony charge after allegedly beating his girlfriend.
According to a booking sheet, Cheyenne police were dispatched to the Sands Motel at 1022 W. Lincolnway at about 11:44 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 for a physical domestic.
Police say the reporting party said a male was hitting a female, and the female was screaming.
Scratches, a Red Swollen Eye, and a Bloody Nose
Police say when they arrived on the scene and located the female, she didn't have a shirt on and had scratches on her chest, back, and arms.
Police say she also had a red swollen right eye and her nose was bleeding.
Police say the male, later identified as Daniel Keith James, had scratches on his face which were bleeding, and said he had been in a relationship with the female for the past year and the two were living together.
Police say a witness said he saw James fighting with the female after he heard them arguing and saw James pulling her into the room by her hair.
Man Hit With Felony Charge After Allegedly Beating His Girlfriend
James was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center, and later charged with domestic battery - two or more previous convictions within the previous ten years, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
Previous Convictions
Police say James was convicted of domestic violence on March 27, 2018, and strangulation of a household member on May 28, 2019.
James made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Sept. 3, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
