Cheyenne Man Accused of Taking Plaques Off Downtown Bronzes
A 32-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a felony charge after allegedly taking plaques off bronze statues in downtown Cheyenne.
According to a booking sheet, Thunder Nolan Kellum was arrested at 8:27 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, after police were called to Paris West at 1719 Central Ave. for a behavior problem.
Behavior Problem Leads to Felony Property Destruction Charge
Police say witnesses told them that Kellum had been in the restaurant for several hours, and had been doing pushups and other odd things.
Kellum had also reportedly eaten food that he didn't pay for and attempted to tip using a 3x5 bronze plaque.
Police say it was later discovered that Kellum had 20 of the plaques, which are the labels for the Capitol Avenue Bronze Project. They say Kellum told them he'd been given permission to take them.
Police say Kellum was sitting with a pile of mail in his lap and the top label was not addressed to him, so they seized the pile of letters.
After reportedly initially refusing to put his hands behind his back, Kellum was handcuffed and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center.
Police say on the way to the jail, Kellum made threatening statements to them.
Kellum was later charged with felony property destruction, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
Bond Set at $5K Cash
Kellum made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Aug. 27, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m.
Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
