Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Captures Swank for 3rd Time; Hoping Court Takes ‘Appropriate Action’

If the third time is the charm, 54-year-old Cheyenne resident Charles Burgess Swank Jr. should never be on the Laramie County Sheriff's Office's "Most Wanted" list again.

According to a booking sheet, Swank, who was added to the list for the third time on Dec. 11, 2023, was captured around 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Avenue D.

The arresting deputy says when he completed his stop, Swank, who he knew had a warrant, exited the car and ran.

As the deputy made his approach, Swank reportedly reached for the inside of his coat, and the deputy tackled him to the ground and handcuffed him.

The deputy says when he ran Swank's information through dispatch, Swank returned with three warrants out of Laramie County.

The first was for failing to appear in District Court and was signed by Judge Thomas Campbell on Nov. 20, 2023.

The second was for failing to pay $50 for leaving the scene of an accident.

And the third was for failing to appear for a Nov. 23, 2023, preliminary hearing on a felony theft charge.

After the warrants were confirmed, a search was completed and 14.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine was reportedly found.

Swank was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for jail clearance and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on his warrants as well as charges of misdemeanor interference with a peace officer - no injury, felony possession of methamphetamine, and felony possession of a controlled substance - third or subsequent offense.

Swank was seen in Circuit Court on Tuesday morning, May 14, during which his total bond was set at $10,000 cash and his next court appearance was scheduled for Friday, May 23.

He's scheduled to be seen on his District Court warrant at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

"We hope the Court will take appropriate action," the Sheriff's Office in a May 13 Facebook post said.
