Traffic Stop Leads to Fentanyl, Felony Charge for Cheyenne Man
A 57-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a felony charge after a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper reportedly caught him with six bags of fentanyl pills.
Non-Functioning Headlight
According to a booking sheet, the trooper was patrolling near mile marker 4 on Interstate 25 at 11:56 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, when he spotted a Jaguar traveling northbound with a non-functioning headlight.
The trooper caught up to the Jaguar and stopped it at the Port of Entry.
The trooper says the driver, later identified as Timothy Franklin Fox, was making furtive movements and appeared to be leaning over the center console area, and when he contacted Fox, Fox told him that his driver's license was suspended, that he didn't have insurance, and that the bill of sale was on his counter at home.
A record check reportedly showed that Fox was suspended, and the registration had expired in 2022.
37.2 Grams of Fentanyl
When the trooper searched the Jaguar, he reportedly found four plastic bags with blue M30 fentanyl pills.
The trooper says when he returned to his patrol vehicle, he saw Fox, who had requested to sit on the bumper to smoke a cigarette, throw two more plastic bags to the rear of his patrol vehicle.
The trooper says the total weight of the six bags was 37.2 grams.
Fox Arrested, Charged With Felony Possession of Fentanyl
Fox was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center.
He was subsequently charged with felony possession of fentanyl.
Bond Set at $10K Cash
Fox made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Thursday, April 24, during which his bond was set at $10,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, May 2, at 11 a.m.
Warrant for Failure to Comply
Inmate Fox was then served with a warrant signed by Laramie County District Court Judge Catherine R. Rogers for failure to comply with his bond conditions on original charges of felony possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance - third or subsequent offense.
