$50K Cash Bond Set for Cheyenne Man Accused of Backing Over Woman
A $50,000 cash bond was set Tuesday for a Cheyenne man accused of backing over a woman with his car after pulling a gun on her and hitting another woman and her truck with an ice scraper.
Police say the incident happened around 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Maverik located at 140 Gardenia Dr.
Public Information Officer Alex Farkas says the women had gone to the gas station to meet 33-year-old Cody Fertig.
"One of the females exited the truck carrying an ice scraper and began to argue with Fertig," said Farkas.
"As the argument escalated, he displayed a firearm and pointed it at her," she added. "He then took the ice scraper and pushed her to the ground."
Farkas says Fertig hit the other woman's truck with the ice scraper several times, striking her in the face through the driver’s side window.
"He returned to the first victim, pushed her to the ground again, and punched her repeatedly before walking back to his vehicle," she said.
"As Fertig was leaving the location, he put his car into reverse, and the front passenger wheel drove over the female’s body and head," she added. "He then fled from the scene."
Police Say the Woman Suffered Serious Injuries
Farkas says the woman suffered serious injuries and was taken by a family member to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
She says Fertig was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center at 5:30 a.m. after officers located him outside of his home and chased him on foot to the Albertsons located at 3355 E. Pershing Blvd.
When asked Wednesday whether the woman who was backed over was still hospitalized, how the victims know each other, and what their connection to Fertig is, Farkas could not say.
Fertig Charged With 3 Felonies, 2 Misdemeanors
Fertig is charged with felony aggravated assault and battery-threaten with a deadly weapon, felony aggravated assault and battery, felony property destruction, misdemeanor battery, and misdemeanor interference with a peace officer.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, Dec. 20, in Laramie County Circuit Court.
